In recent years,the topic of critical thinking has attracted widespread attention at home and abroad.Since Professor Huang Yuanshen put forward the idea of the absence of critical thinking,many universities and professors have done research about cultivating the ability of critical thinking.The cultivation of critical thinking ability is beneficial to students' ability of independent thinking.To a large extent,we can motivate the students'learning enthusiasm and initiative in this way.However,under the guidance of college entrance examinations,high school education becomes exam-oriented education in our country.The New Curriculum requires that high school English education should focus on training students' ability to analyze and solve problems in English as well as the critical thinking ability.At present,a lot of critical thinking research is aimed at college students,operational high school English thinking ability studies are few and far between.The core of the college entrance examination in English is reading.All high schools begin to separate liberal arts branch since grade two,so this study decides to focus on the development trend of high school students' reading ability and the similarities and differences between students of liberal arts and science in English reading.This research mainly adopts the method of empirical study,with the purpose of analyzing and comparing students' reading performance.Meanwhile,the study takes interview survey as a research tool.In the experiments,this research chooses the Delphi report and speculative skills scale set in California as the theoretical basis,selects four liberal arts and science classes of similar competence,and conducts a research of half semester.This study proposes the following two questions:1.What are the effects of the critical thinking training of high school students on their English reading ability?2.What is the consequent difference between the students of liberal arts and science in their English reading ability?After half a semester of the experiment,according to the research data,I draw the following conclusion:the critical thinking training has a positive effect on students of liberal arts and science in reading ability.After training,liberal arts students' evaluation,reasoning and self-regulation abilities have greatly improved;While science students'evaluation,inference and interpretation abilities have changed significantly.According to their reading ability differences,teachers can carry out some appropriate teaching activities to enhance students' learning abilities in English.
