Language can't exist without culture.They influence each other and depend on each other.In terms of developing students' basic skills in senior period,reading skills is of great importance.Developing students' reading skills based on reading is in line with the national conditions of senior high school English reading teaching.As for the senior students who see English as the second language to learn,there are lots of aspects which affect their reading ability,including vocabulary,grammar as well as reading skills.In addition,cultural background knowledge is also a very important factor,as each language use is related to its culture.For example,historical culture,geographical culture,social background,religious background,etc.In this essay,I strongly recommended improving students' background knowledge and the teachers should enforce the students' cultural background knowledge.It is suggested in this essay that the infiltration of cultural background is favorable for developing students' interest and raising students' reading ability.This essay is grounded in schema theory of reading,which emphasizes the influence of background knowledge to reading ability.The schema theory of reading sees reading as a top-down process.Reading ability is affected by three schemas,including language schema,content schema and formal schema.Language schema refers to the master of a language.Content schema refers to readers' understanding of the theme.Cultural background knowledge is included in content schema.Form schema refers to the form of the essay.Hence,it is of great significance to illustrate background knowledge in senior English reading teaching.This essay which is based on analyzing the collected data is effective to look for ways of teaching and provide strategies for reading teaching.The target for this essay is the senior two students and analyzes the results of the analysis.The conclusions are as follows:1.If lacking in background knowledge or students can't use background knowledge effectively,no matter how good their language schema is,it is hard for students to develop their reading ability.Also,it is hard for teachers to reach teaching goals.Pay attention to the infiltration of cultural background is beneficial to enrich students' content schema which and also improve students reading ability..2.Cultural background knowledge is related to students' real understanding and analyzing of the reading passage.The master of cultural background knowledge of students determines their reading ability to some extent and will affect their development of their reading ability.The process of the research comes from the practical teaching.From the research,it can be concluded that it is sustainable to enrich students' background knowledge,which influences students' reading skills.So it is of practical significance value and explored value.The results of the research can be used in teaching practice,which can influence the efficiency of reading teaching.
