Finding an effective method to reading teaching is always a hot topic because of the importance of reading. Reading has the great influence on English learning, but the teachers in some rural junior high schools just use some traditional ways to teach students, so an effective and practical reading teaching method should be introduced to both teachers and students in rural area. The core of the study is how to apply Scaffolding Instruction to English reading teaching in order to stimulate their learning interest and improve students' reading performance. Scaffolding Instruction can provide students with the immediate and meaningful supports when they complete the perplexing reading tasks. The learners can solve the problems by themselves after removing the support, which can make them become more confident and active. According to students; ZPD, the Scaffolding Instruction was built up opportunely. The procedures can make the complicated tasks simplify, which was carried out as following steps (He Kekang): 1.entering the situation; 2.providing scaffolds;3.independent exploration; 4.cooperative learning; 5.effective evaluation.Based on the constructivism and the zone of proximal development, the research was carried out from September to December 2015. Two parallel classes were selected from No.4 Junior High School of Daban. Class 1 Grade 8 is the controlled class and Class 2 is the experimental class. The data was collected by the means of tests, interviews and questionnaires, which was analyzed by using SPSS 19.0 software to test the effectiveness of Scaffolding Instruction in junior high school English reading classes. The research is going to find out: Compared with the traditional teaching methods, whether the Scaffolding Instruction is more helpful to stimulate students' reading interest? Whether the Scaffolding Instruction is more helpful to improve English reading performance? The results show that compared with the traditional teaching methods, the Scaffolding Instruction is more helpful to stimulate students' reading interest. As for the reading performance, although the mean of EC grows a little faster than that of CC, the significant improvement is not obvious according to the result analyzed by SPSS.The research also has some shortcomings because the amount of research subjects is small, which was carried out from two classes. Due to the experiment time is short; the improvement of student's reading performance is not obvious. The author also talks about the suggestions for future researches.
