Scaffolding Instruction is a new teaching mode which is on the basis of the Constructivism Theory and the Zone of Proximal Development Theory. In the process of English teaching,Scaffolding Instruction can help students establish meaningful knowledge framework and set up a bridge between the prior and new knowledge gradually. This teaching mode can promote students to have a good grasp of knowledge and change the current situation where middle school students have lower enthusiasm in the traditional teacher-centered English classroom.Through the teaching experiment,we can get inspiration from this new teaching mode.In order to know the current situation and existing problems of Scaffolding Instruction to English reading teaching in junior high school, the author puts forward the following two research questions:(1)What is the effect of Scaffolding Instruction on the junior students' proficiency in English reading?(2)What is the effect of Scaffolding Instruction on the junior students' interest in English reading? This thesis is based on the Constructivism Theory and the Zone of Proximal Development Theory by Vygotsky. The research subjects consist of 97 students from Class One and Class Six in Grade Seven of Zhengzhou NO.52 Middle School. And this research focuses on the application of Scaffolding Instruction in English reading teaching and also verifies its effect on English reading teaching and influence on students' English reading learning through investigation questionnaires, tests and students' face-to-face interviews. The research results show that the Scaffolding Instruction can not only improve the junior students' reading proficiency, but also can arouse their reading interest. However,it is admitted that this research has some defects, such as lack of adequate experimental samples and limitation of experimental time.Generally,it has achieved the expected results and put forward some feasible suggestions for the teaching of junior high school English reading class in the future.
