Listening has a position that cannot be overlooked in the foreign language classroom teaching. However, the teaching of listening has long been a weak link in Chinese English language teaching.Through classroom observation, the author noticed that middle school students accompanied by a high level of listening anxiety during the listening comprehension process, which can negatively influence the correct use of listening strategies. This thesis is designed to explore the relationship between listening anxiety and listening strategies of high school students during the process of listening comprehension. So in this research, the author must solve the following three problems: Do students use listening strategies during the listening comprehension? What kind of listening anxiety might students have during the process of listening comprehension? What effect does listening anxiety have on listening strategies of high school students during the process of listening comprehension? There are 200 subjects participating in this study and they are chosen from Yuhua Middle School in Mu Danjiang and Mu Danjiang NO.2 Middle School. The instruments that this study adopts are questionnaires and SPSS17.0.The questionnaires consist of three parts: the personal background information questionnaire, the listening anxiety questionnaire and the listening strategy questionnaire. The main findings of this study are as follows:1.The majority of the students' listening proficiency is in a medium level.Listening anxiety is very common among them. The subjects' mastery of listening strategy is lower than the medium level and most of them eager to better grasp the listening strategy.2.Of all the subjects, nearly 80% of them have medium or high level of listening anxiety.3.The subjects' application of listening strategy is in a medium level, the social/affective strategy is most frequently used, followed by cognitive strategies and metacognitive strategies.4.Through the Pearson Correlation analysis, the author finds the subjects' listening anxiety is significantly and negatively correlated to the overall listening strategy application, the results indicates that the higher degree of students' listening anxiety is,the less applying of listening strategies. The data also shows that listening anxiety has the strongest correlation with cognitive strategies, and followed by metacognitive strategies and social/affective strategies. This study is hoped to be helpful to catch educator and teachers' attention on students' listening anxiety and their listening strategy use,and students can improve their listening proficiency through reducing listening anxiety and applying the appropriate listening strategy.
