Vocabulary teaching is one of the most important parts in English teaching and learning.However,at present,the traditional way of teaching vocabulary makes students stuck in the boring process of memorizing uncountable vocabulary.It is of great value to find out the best way to help students learn effectively and efficiently.On this ground,the author has looked up a large number of relevant materials,and found and to learn how to apply phonics in their English vocabulary learning,and it is simple and effective.Phonics,which follows the rule of students learning English,allows students to learn through games and makes them love English and vocabulary.It not only makes English vocabulary be learnt in a relaxing atmosphere but also improves learning efficiency.Accordingly,The study contains two main questions:(1)What is the effect of phonics on the pupils' interests in English vocabulary lerarning?(2)What is the impact of phonics on the pupils' reading and spelling ability of English vocabulary?On the basis of a great amount of related literature materials and some educational theories like children cognitive development theory and transfer hypothesis,adopting methods such as literature method and teaching experimental method,the author carries on practical teaching research in Bocai Zhonghai Primary School in Changsha city,Hunan province.She applies the phonics and traditional teaching method intwo classes in Grade five respectively.During the whole process,the author makes a questionnaire survey on the students' attitude to learning vocabulary in primary school,adjusts her teaching pedagogy and tries to find out the most appropriate way of teaching vocabulary.In the last part of the thesis,some effective strategies on how to use phonics to teach English vocabulary in primary school are put forward.Through practical teaching and experiences,the conclusion has been drawn that in primary English vocabulary teaching,the phonics teaching method is effective,so we can apply phonics to primary English vocabulary teaching.
