With the rapid development of education,the traditional teacher-centered teaching mode has been unable to meet the requirements of cultivating talents in modern society.Cooperation has become an imperative ability in the process of internationalization,and cooperative learning has become one of the indispensable teaching methods in modern education.Besides,reading as one of the four important abilities in English learning plays a key role in junior middle school English teaching.Junior middle school is the period of compulsory education,which plays a vital role in English learning.Reading strategies of teaching has been attracted more and more attentions among the English teachers.In order to cultivate students' cooperative consciousness and develop students' cooperative ability,so the author chooses jigsaw approach as the research object.The theory of Cooperative Learning rose in the United States in 1970 s.The application of it improved the classroom learning atmosphere greatly,developed the students' grades,formed students' good learning habits,and cultivated students' cooperative consciousness.In 1980 s,China began to study and advocate it.Jigsaw approach is an effective way of cooperative learning,as a puzzle game,which brings some interesting,instructive and initiative environment to English reading class instead of a boring and dull atmosphere.It also can cultivate the students' good reading habits,good teamwork spirit and the ability of information acquisition.The research object of this paper is the students from class 4 and their English teacher in Longquan No.1 Middle School.This paper mainly aims at studying on English reading teaching in junior middle schools by applying jigsaw approach.The author mainly adopts the literature review,questionnaire,interview,and observation to conduct this research.This paper starts with the background of the study,expounds the problems existing in the current junior middle school English reading,and teachers need to find a new teaching method to change the present situation.Then the author introduces the definition and the status of domestic and foreign research on reading and jigsaw approach.Through describing the research methods,research object,and research questions,it shows the feasibility study about jigsaw for those middle school students' reading competence.Next,a detailed description of the implementation of jigsaw in specific teaching cases is explained.And the author summarizes about the study results and analyzes the collected data.Finally,this paper finds that jigsaw approach can improve the classroom atmosphere,enhance students' interest in learning,and cultivate students' cooperative consciousness,which proves that jigsaw approach is feasible in junior English reading teaching.However,any study cannot be perfect.Firstly,his study only conducted in a high level middle school.Secondly,the study lasted only 3 months,so it might be a little bit short for a complete study.The author will pay more attention to the existing problems in the future research.
