| English grammar teaching has always been an important part in foreign language teaching.At the same time,it also arouses a lot of debate.Now this dispute does not focus on whether to teach grammar or not,but on how to teach and what to teach.Full-time Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard has put forward that the main job of English curriculum reform is to change the situation that too much emphasis on teaching the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary,and students’ practical language ability is ignored.Traditional grammar teaching methods such as grammar-translation method,audio-lingual method or PPP teaching method focus on grammar knowledge teaching,pattern practice and grammar rules remembering.They pay too much attention to the form of language learning in stead of the communication function of grammar teaching.This will result in a lot of consequences such as most of time the teacher talks by himself.Students are passive and feel boring during the class.What’s more,some students still can not communicate effectively in real situation even if they acquired a lot of grammar knowledge.Many factors may account for this situation.The neglect of information gap in grammar teaching should be one important reason.Information gap is one crucial principle of communicative language teaching approach,and it is also one type of task language teaching.A successful information gap interact task should be full of information gap.It means that each of the two sides owns different information,and in order to complete the task,the only way for them is to exchange their information and make up the blanks in information.Based on the understanding above,this research takes the empirical research method to combine information gap Task with English grammar teaching in junior high school.Through teaching cases design assisting with questionnaire survey,interview and class observation,after several weeks’ research,we can get the following major findings of the study: information gap task is an effective and feasible method in junior high school English grammar teaching.It can arouse students’ interest in grammar,improve students’ attitude towards grammar learning and increase the participation in grammar learning class. |
