English reading teaching is the important component in English teaching of junior middle school.However,English reading teaching is still influenced by the traditional teaching method.More attention is paid to explanation of the words,phrases and grammar in the texts and the translation of texts in the reading class.Students are not interested in English reading learning and lack in the ability of reading comprehension.The effect of English reading teaching is not ideal.The concept of context is proposed by Malinowski(1923)and he believes that language is closely related to the context and the context is essential for understanding language.In order to enhance the effect of English reading teaching in junior middle school,this research applies the context theory to English reading teaching in junior middle school.The research questions of this thesis include:1.Can English reading teaching based on context theory enhance students' reading learning motivation?2.Can English reading teaching based on context theory improve students' reading achievement?This study is conducted in No.12 Junior Middle School in Jinzhou,Liaoning Province.The study lasts for 4 months.102 students from two classes in Grade Eight participate in this study.Class 1 is chosen as experimental class(EC)and Class 2 is taken as control class(CC).The teaching method in experimental class is different from the teaching method in the control class.The reading teaching method based on the context theory is used in experimental class.The traditional reading teaching method is used in control class.In this thesis,research instruments include questionnaire,test,interview and SPSS software.After the teaching experiment,the data can be gathered and analyzed.According to the analysis of data,the following conclusions can be drawn:English reading teaching based on context theory can enhance students' reading learning motivation.English reading teaching based on context theory can improve students' reading achievement.Consequently,the context theory is applied to the English reading teaching of junior middle school,which is feasible and beneficial.It is expected that the English teachers in junior middle school can be enlightened from the results of the study inEnglish reading teaching.
