As an important link in senior high school English teaching,reading teaching plays a crucial part in developing students' general language ability and cannot be replaced,which can be obviously seen under the circumstance of quality-oriented education.From past several years' English tests in the college entrance examination,it can be found that the test items only testing basic English knowledge are disappearing gradually.Instead,the number of those test items testing comprehensive language competence is becoming larger and larger.What can be seen from that is to improve senior high students' reading ability is not only the requirement of quality-oriented education reform but also the requirement of college entrance examination reform.However,in the current overall situation,something goes wrong among senior high school students,like memorizing knowledge points without understanding,lacking of language input,having no learning motivation,and being short of comprehensible output,which naturally causes the unsatisfying result of reading teaching in senior high school.In order to solve the above problems and explore a new way of senior high school reading teaching which is more suitable for current situation,this paper mainly researches how to effectively combine the input and output hypothesis with high school reading teaching to bring the efficiency of high school English classes to a new level.For the purpose of testifying that the new teaching method is effective and efficient,160 Senior Two students from Xincai NO.1 Senior High School are chosen to conduct an experiment.They come from two different classes: the control class(CC)and the experimental class(EC),but the students in the two classes are in the same English level.During the four-month experiment,in EC,the teaching method based on the input and output hypothesis is used,while students in CC are still in hand of the traditional grammar-translation teaching method.Then the data from the pre-test and post-test are collected and analyzed.As the data show,the teaching method based on the input and output hypothesis do effectively improve students' reading scores.
