In a new round of teaching reform,classroom model of student-centered and teacher-led is advocated.Students' individual differences have aroused teachers' attention.Cognitive styles are the ways which individual organizes,analyzes and recalls new message and experiences.Cognitive style is an important part of individual differences.Cognitive style plays an important role in the process of receiving,analyzing and processing information.Field dependence and Field independence are the two most important parts of cognitive style.The field dependence learners take the external standard as the reference,their analysis ability is poor,but their cooperation ability and the ability of adapting to the environment are strong.They are suitable for the way of acquisition study.Field independence learners have strong analytic ability.They take their own experience as a standard and are not easy to be disturbed by the outside standards.They have strong self-learning ability while they are weak in interpersonal ability.They are more suitable for traditional teaching methods.Therefore,to know students' cognitive styles is helpful for teachers to find suitable teaching methods to help students to improve their learning achievements.Reading is a cognitive process in human's mind.It is one of the most important ways of getting information.As one of the four skills of English learning,reading is an important part of English learning.It is the interaction between the reader and the text.There is a close relationship between students' cognitive styles and their reading achievements.Senior high school students have formed stable cognitive styles.So it is essential to explore the relationship between field dependence/field independence and English reading achievements of senior high school students.First,this paper made an introduction of field dependence/independence and English reading.Then,this research did a study about field dependence/field independence and English reading at home and abroad.The paper adopts the methods of questionnaire and test,regarding 120 students from the First Senior High MiddleSchool of Mudanjiang as research subjects.Cognitive style Figure Test and questionnaire are used to ensure students' cognitive styles.The paper also did an research to test students' English reading levels.SPSS 22.0 was used to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire and test data,and descriptive analysis and Pearson Correlation Analysis were conducted,results showed that:(1)Field independence has positive relation with English reading achievements.Field dependence has no relation with senior high school students' English reading achievements.(2)In English reading achievements,Field independence has obvious positive relation with cloze,seven selected five and main idea.Field dependence has no relation with reading question types.The author gives some suggestions to teachers and students.It is hopeful to have some reference value to teachers' teaching and students' learning in senior high school English reading teaching.
