A Survey On The Vocabulary Presentation Modes In Junior Middle School English Vocabulary Teaching

Abstract/Summary:
Vocabulary is the important part in language teaching and learning,and it is the critical period for the junior school students to base the vocabulary foundation.The vocabulary presentation modes play an important role in vocabulary teaching.The paper is based on the cognitive development theory,and researches the frequently-used presentation modes,the application effect of the presentation modes and the existing problems in the application of the presentation modes in the junior middle school vocabulary teaching by means of the questionnaire,interview,classroom observation and the vocabulary tests.This research is implemented in Quyang secondary school,Baoding city.The research results are presented as follows:(1)The frequently-used vocabulary presentation mode is the description presentation mode in junior middle school English teaching.However,most of the students expect that teachers use the perception and the game presentation modes to present the new words.(2)In the process of the description presentation mode,the classroom environment is boring and the students’ reaction is not active.In the process of the perception presentation mode and the game presentation mode,the students listen carefully,and there are more interactions between the teacher and students.Meanwhile,the achievement of the description presentation mode is the highest in the immediate test,next is the perception presentation mode,and the game presentation mode is the lowest.About the delayed test,the achievement of the perception presentation mode is the best,next is the game presentation mode,and the description presentation mode is the last.Besides,most of the teachers often apply the description presentation mode,but the vocabulary learning effect is not good.(3)Teachers have not the deep understanding of the students’ requirements and do not make full use of the multiple presentation modes.This research provides a reference for the proper usage of the presentation modes so that teachers can consider the real situation and use the various presentation modes to increase students’ vocabulary learning interests.
