The new "English Curriculum Standard" issued by the Ministry of Education in2011 requires the students in the primary stage of English learning to achieve the goals of recognizing and reading the words taught to them and spelling out the simple words according to the spelling rules.However,there is a prominent problem in the English teaching,that is,quite a lot of students have difficulties in spelling out the words.In this paper,by the quantitative research method and the horizontal comparison test method,the author carried out investigation on the words spelling problems of the middle-and high-grade students of ** Experimental Primary School,and meanwhile the author also conducted a teaching experiment on the students of two classes of the fourth grade by using the traditional words teaching method and the new Phonics teaching method,based on which,and starting from the practice of the English lessons in primary schools,from the students' cognitive process,and from the various aspects around letters,combination of letters,rhythm and methodological guidance,the author systematically studied the detailed methods of cultivation of the words spelling ability of the primary school students,with the intention of exploring an effective model to develop the ability of the students to spell out words.Such model is an integration of the methods of positive transfer function of mother language,phonological knowledge penetration,spelling rule penetration and memory methods penetration,which could enable the students to preliminarily grasp the effective methods of learning English words and could provide advice for the English teachers.
