Reading as one of the four skills of a language,possesses important status in language learning.What's more,reading occupies a large proportion in the English examination.Nevertheless,in junior high school,reading has always been the weakest aspect of students in English teaching.Although a lot of efforts are being spent on improving these deficiencies,more efficient and more effective teaching method has yet to be developed.As we know,reading productiveness is influenced by many factors and among these factors,affect is one of the major factors.In recent years,with the comprehensive implementation of quality education in our country,affective teaching has attracted more and more attention of educators.Affective teaching is a teaching method,by which teachers take sufficient consideration of learners' cognitive aspects and give full play to the positive role of affective factors,which lead to the effectiveness of instruction target and the improvement of students' learning achievements.Therefore,this thesis aims to prove the effectiveness and necessity of affective teaching in modern English reading teaching of junior high school with the help of empirical research.The three research questions in this paper are:(1)Can affective teaching promote the development of junior high school students' affective state in English reading learning?(2)Will affective reading teaching promote junior high school students' English reading proficiency more effectively than traditional English reading teaching method?The research is conducted in No.1 Junior High School of Linghai,Liaoning Province.It begins in September 2016 and ends in January 2017.The experiment was conducted by comparing two classes of ninth-year students,classified as CC and EC.During the experiment,the traditional reading teaching mode is used in the CC while EC uses the affective reading teaching mode.The experiment data was gathered through questionnaire,interview and test and then the data was analyzed by SPSS after the experiment.The findings of the study reveal that the affective teaching can not only promote the development of the students' emotional state in English reading learning,but also improve their English reading proficiency.In addition,compared with the traditional teaching,affective teaching mode is more popular and supported by most of the students.
