With relevant theory of Computer Assisted Language Learning(CALL)and reading,this research project attempts to explore the effectiveness of CALL in improving senior high school students' reading scores and interests.This research is based on the importance and the present situation of reading teaching and learning.The research questions are:(1)which method is more efficient in improving senior high school students' English reading interests,the traditional teaching method or the CALL teaching method?(2)which method is more effective in enhancing senior high school students' English reading scores,the traditional teaching method or the CALL teaching method?In order to answer the two research questions,it is necessary to explore the effectiveness of the application of CALL in English reading teaching.This research was conducted in Huining No.4 Senior High School,Baiyin City,Gansu province,lasting 12 weeks(from 6th September to 30 th November 2016).The participants are80 students from two classes of Grade Two.Class 5 with 40 students is set as an experimental class(EC)and Class 6 with 40 students is regarded as the control class(CC).In this research project,the EC students were taught English reading by the application of CALL while the CC students were taught reading with traditional teaching method.The instruments used in this research project include the questionnaire,the tests and the interview.The collected data were input into SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Science)(19.0 version)for data analysis.Before the research,the results of pre-questionnaire and pre-test indicate that the students in EC and CC are at the same level.There is no obvious difference between these two classes in reading scores and interests.Then the experimental teaching is carried out for twelve weeks.After the research,the results of post-questionnaire,post-test and interview prove that there are distinct differences between the EC and CC students.Specifically,the EC students excel those in CC,justifying the effectiveness of the application of CALL to English reading teaching for senior high school students.According to the qualitative and quantitative data analysis,it can be seen that CALL is effective in training students' reading scores and interests.Therefore,teaching reading with CALL approach is viable.It is hoped that the findings of this thesis are beneficial to students' learning,teachers' teaching and further study.What's more,The implications and limitations of this thesis are discussed.Besides,suggestions for further study are also described.
