The written feedback from the teacher is an important part in English composition teaching. If teachers can correctly employ the "written feedback",the writing ability of the students will be greatly improved. On the basis of relevant literature review with my own practical experience, I firstly elucidate the definition of effective written feedback,the process of realizing effective written feedback and the characteristics of effective written feedback. I then analyze the situation of current written feedback in English composition teaching by analyzing the works of written feedback, student behavior scale,along with teacher interview and student interview. I find out that there are many problems in both teachers' and students' behavior. Thus,the effectiveness of teachers'written feedback needs to be enhanced. In order to provide teachers with useful, specific,efficient feedback suggestions, I finally put forwards some measures to optimize teacher'written feedback.This paper consists of four partsIntroduction: First of all, I introduce the three reasons for selecting this topic, and then discuss the purpose and significance of this study, and analyze the relevant literature information about effectiveness of teachers' written feedback at home and abroad.Based on previous research I summarize the shortcomings of the existing research and point out the characteristics and innovations of my paper. Finally, I introduce ideas and research methods of this paper.Part I: The main content of this part is about the definition and the process of realizing effective written feedback. I start this part with the definition of feedback,written feedback and effective written feedback. Theoretical basis of effective written feedback are followed behind. At last, I talk about the realization process of effective written feedback.Part II: The main content of this part is about the characteristics of effective written feedback. I analyze the characteristics of the content in effective written feedback, the characteristics of function in effective written feedback and the characteristic of student-based. Here student-based means care about the feedback of students.Part III: This part is about research part. Rely on the characteristics of effective written feedback. I try to explore the problems in current teachers' written feedback. The result shows that both teachers and students have problems. At last, I explore the cause of the ineffective teachers' feedback by the teacher interview and student interview.Part VI: This is the solution part. This section is mainly about methods and measures of improving the effectiveness of teachers' written feedback. I think we should improve the effectiveness of teachers' written feedback through the following four ways:Changing the concept of feedback, namely, the humanistic care of written feedback should be strengthened; Reforming the traditional feedback model and introducing Multiple-draft Composition; Receiving the students and developing the initiative of students; Optimizing feedback content and improving the value of feedback;Encouraging teachers to study hard and improving their own feedback ability.
