Schema theory plays an important role in the study of English reading. It is emphasized that based on the schema theory, learners should make full use of the relevant background knowledge and try appropriate schema to understand different types of reading materials. As for the previous study of schema theory, most of the efforts focus on the students of universities and senior middle schools, and thus have ignored the targets in junior middle schools. And more worries come from the fact that a large number of junior middle school students seem to have no interest in English learning, which makes the situation even worse.Furthermore, the previous study is mainly centered on the research of experimental methods. The present author of the paper tries to make a case study of the research on the basis of schema theory, and by way of the qualitative & quantitative methods and comparative analysis of individual differences,it is expected to discuss how to improve the English reading effectively. This case study involves the participation of four students of grade two in a junior school.Based on the previous research of related theories and practices and guided by the schema theory for teaching English reading,we take use of different ways of observation, interviews and diaries, have detailed analysis of individual differences and problems concerned, try a series of teaching methods and skills, probe into the comparative study of research data throughout the course, and hope to find whether the students' reading proficiency can be improved.Luckily with our great efforts, this study proves to be quite helpful and effective for the students' reading. Therefore,it is acceptable and also reasonable for us to extend this teaching practice to a larger scope of class activities.
