Critical thinking,a vital part of human thinking skills,is a basis of creativity,which makes significant effects on social progress,technological improvement and students' studies.So critical thinking has become one of the most emphases of educational reforms in every country.Writing is a kind of highly intense activity of thinking and writing process is a good indicator of the level of students' thinking ability.Critical thinking is throughout the whole process.While,in China,because of the extended influence of traditional education and the pressure of college entrance exam,students' critical thinking is below the average and their compositions are lack of logic.As a result,the study of how to cultivate students' critical thinking and improve their writing proficiency has become a hot research around the world.The current domestic researches are mainly about the correlation between college students' critical thinking and their writing ability.But,the related researches on senior high school students' writing and their critical thinking are not enough.The author believes that it is very necessary to cultivate senior high school students' critical thinking in their writing classes and both of them can be combined well.So this thesis is an empirical research to explore the correlation between senior high school students' critical thinking and their writing.Based on studying on the general level of senior high students' critical thinking,the author explores the relation of each.In addition,the author integrates the cultivation of critical thinking into English writing classes,and infers the influence on students' English writing ability by cultivating critical thinking in English writing classes.At last,this thesis provides the methods of how to cultivate students' critical thinking in English writing classes.After doing questionnaires and ten weeks' experiment,the author finds that senior high school students' critical thinking is at the low-middle level and they are lack of the awareness and the basic skills of critical thinking.What's worse,their compositions are boring.In addition,the results also show that the correlation between students' critical thinking and writing proficiency is positively significant.During the experiment,students' critical thinking and writing proficiency have been improved greatly.It demonstrates that the cultivation of students' critical thinking in writing class can not only develop students' critical thinking,butalso improve students' writing proficiency.
