With the development of globalization,English becomes more and more important in people's lives.It also has established its position as a major subject in middle schools.Writing,as one of the four basic skills in English learning,is essential in English examinations.However,writing is difficult for middle school students in learning English.How to improve students' writing abilities is a permanent focus in English teaching.The research of writing learning strategies is conducive to improve students' writing interests and abilities.From this viewpoint,this study attempts to prove that writing learning strategies act on writing learning and teaching.Learning strategies belong to a kind of learner-centered teaching model,which based on cognitive theory.It emphasizes the principal role of students and conforms to the requirements of English curriculum standards.English Curriculum Standards(2011)stress the importance of writing learning strategies and require students to proficiently use the writing learning strategies for enhancing their writing competence.Therefore,this study devotes to answering two questions:1.What are the differences in learning English writing between high-score group and low-score group?2.What effects do writing learning strategies have on improving students' English writing abilities in middle schools?For answering the above two research questions,questionnaire and interview are adopted as research methods,and then a three-month experiment is done in Shangqiu No.11 Middle School.112 students in two classes of Grade Eight take this experiment.Before the experiment,all students take a writing test and answer a questionnaire to investigate their writing levels and current situation of writing learning strategies.Then one class is randomly taken as the experimental class,the other one as the controlled class.Traditional writing teaching method is kept in the controlled class and writing learning strategies instruction is adopted in the experimental class.After the experiment,another writing test is held in the two classes to observe the change of their writing abilities.Finally,to get the result of the experiment,a survey is conducted to students in the experimental class with the previous questionnaire.Meanwhile,an interview is carried out in the experimental class to further understand the influence of writing learning strategies on writing learning.After the analysis of the data collected from the experiment,there is a conclusion: writing learning strategies have positive effects on learning English writing.It not only improves students' writing abilities,but also changes students' attitudes towards English writing.Furthermore,it arouses students' interests in English writing,which is helpful for students to develop good writing habits and achieve satisfactory language skills.This paper consists of six chapters: Chapter One is an introduction of the paper.It mainly introduces the background of this study,the current situation of English writing in middle schools,the significance of this study as well as research questions and methods.Chapter Two gives a brief introduction of learning strategies and reviews previous researches about writing learning strategies at home and abroad.Related studies about the effect of writing learning strategies on writing learning are also included in this chapter.Chapter Three includes the introduction of cognitive theory as well as its effect on writing learning strategies.Chapter Four mainly contains the research subject,research instruments and specific research procedures.Chapter Five is the analysis of data collection and discussion.The analysis of two questionnaires,two writing tests and the interview are involved in this chapter.Chapter Six presents the major findings,the implications of this study,the limitations of the research and the suggestions for further study.
