Writing is believed to be the most demanding among the basic skills in the language learning and it can reflect one's comprehensive language skills.Feedback plays a significant role in second language learning and effective feedback also affects students' writing ability.As for current English writing feedback,teachers mainly provide students with written corrective feedback in China.However,in recent years,with the development of technology,technological information and electronic devices have been gradually applied into education.The use of WeChat is becoming more and more popular among junior high school students.Many researchers have tried to explore the impact of combining teacher written feedback and electronic feedback on writing.But many a research focuses on college English education and there are few empirical studies about the use of electronic feedback to junior high school students.This study aimed to explore the feasibility of the electronic feedback mode through WeChat.In addition,it aimed to explore the effectiveness of the combining model of “traditional written feedback” and “electronic feedback”.The study lasted 12 weeks in total and mainly adopted quantitative research,and an experiment study was conducted to investigate research questions.Sixty subjects from two parallel classes in a middle school in Kunming were chosen to take part in this teaching experiment.The one class was regarded as the control class;the other one was the experiment class.Students in the control class only received traditional teacher feedback to their writing compositions.However,the experiment class students can obtain from their teacher both traditional teacher feedback and electronic feedback through WeChat.Students' scores of pretest and posttest,data and information obtained from questionnaire and interviews are collected and analyzed to search for the effectiveness of the new feedback mode and students' attitudes and acceptance to it.The research shows that both the control class and the experimental class improve their writing quality from pretest to posttest,but the improvement in the experiment class is more significant than that of the control class.This result indicates that the new teacher feedback mode can improve students' writing quality.In addition,it can be seen that students have positive attitudes toward the combined model of traditional written feedback and electronic feedback through WeChat based on the analysis of questionnaire and interview data and information.Meanwhile,some problems still existed in traditional written feedback during the teaching experiment.This study really has some reference value to the impact of combining teacher written feedback and electronic feedback for further study and it can also provide pedagogical implications for junior high school English writing teaching.
