New requirements to teachers' professional development are put forward in Teachers' Professional Standard for Elementary School,but there still exists some shortcomings for primary mathematics teachers' professional development in reality.School-based teaching and research is an important way to make up for lacking teacher professional development.The object of this research is C primary school in Kunming city,while literature method,questionnaire survey,interview survey and case study are used in this research.The research aims to three aspects: the first is to carry out investigation to school-based teaching and research activities in order to find out the actuality of C primary school;the second is to carry out investigation for status of teachers' professional development to know the overall status of C primary school;the third is to carry out case study to six mathematics teachers which includes two teachers of novice,proficient and expert teacher respectively,in order to understand the generality of professional development for mathematics teachers in C primary school and study how to promote teachers' professional development through the school-based teaching and research.The results of this study are as follows: firstly,the activity of school-based teaching and research is divided into three types,which are types of learning,types of teaching and types of studying.For different types,there are specific system and evaluation mechanism which is the premise of guarantee for success to school-based teaching and research in C primary school.Self-reflection,peer support and professional led are three forces to promote teachers' professional development.Secondly,status quo of professional development for mathematics teachers in primary school is preferably.It is found that most of mathematics teachers in C primary school are good in master professional knowledge,in the meantime they are armed with professional ability,new professional concept,good professional attitudes and motivation.They also have need to their own professional development and are equipped with consciousness of professional development.Thirdly,school-based teaching and research is an effective way to promote professional development of teachers.The main form to promote teachers' professional development for novice teachers is types of learning,showing in improving their professional level through self-reflection,summary,peer support and network learning;the main form to promote teachers' professional development for mature teachers is types of teaching,showing in obtaining teaching achievements through using collective power and forming characteristic teaching model gradually;the main form to promote teachers' professional development for expert teachers is types of studying,showing in equipping with stronger ability of education and scientific research and doing innovative teaching during teaching.Teaching ability of three types teachers is improved through school-based teaching and research which is mainly counting on teaching and research activities of more-help types.
