With the in-depth reform of basic education, people realize that teachers play a vital role in promoting curriculum reform,cultivating talents and developing national education increasingly. In recent years, the research of teacher professional development theory and practice has become an important issue in the field of education research, especially the research of famous teachers’ growth and development has become the research hotspot. These research achievements are significant in the development of education and the growth of young teachers.In this background, this thesis is in the case of teacher Xie, who is a top-tier primary school mathematics teacher in Chongqing. This thesis based on the theory of teacher professional development, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the life education theory, adopts interview method, observation method and material analysis method to review and summarize the development history of his thirty-year teaching career. The thesis from the vertical angle divides Mr.Xie’s professional development into five periods: adaptation period, mature period, turning period, plateau period and creative period. In the adaptation period, Mr.Xie puts his heart and soul into teaching career and gets outstanding achievements. In the mature period, Mr.Xie explores education teaching laws and forms his own teaching style( "simple" "nature") based on his teaching practice. In the turning period, Mr.Xie accumulates rich management experience as a training aids factory manager. Besides, he uses action research method to explore the relationship between training aids and mathematics education, which lays a good foundation for teaching reform. In the plateau period, with the development of the new curriculum reform in the early 21 st century, Mr.Xie transforms external challenges into internal development momentum, and creates features school culture, which calls "Tree-Self education". He achieves a major breakthrough in himself by insisting on learning, self-improvement, teaching reform and innovation. In the creative period, Mr.Xie leads teachers to explore the teaching method of "self learning in primary mathematics" and do some experimental researches, which promotes the reform and development of primary school mathematics teaching in the Three Gorges Reservoir area.On the basis of analyzing the stage characteristics of Mr.Xie’s professional development, the thesis analyzes the factors that affect Mr.Xie’s professional development from the horizontal angle, and mainly analyzes the composition of Mr.Xie’s professional qualities. He loves teaching career and students so he has professionalism. He has well-knit professional knowledge. By studying, rethinking and summarizing, he has more common culture knowledge, math subjects knowledge,education subject knowledge and practical knowledge. He also has excellent professional skills, such as teaching and research ability, management ability and leadership ability.Summary and enlightenment. Based on the case of Mr.Xie’s professional development, the thesis concludes that favorable external environment is the support of teachers’ professional development, it needs each family’s efforts, the assistance of the school and the society, the support of state. Firm education beliefs and high professional self is the internal impetus of teachers’ professional development. Good professional knowledge and ability is the core of teachers’ professional development. Teachers should improve themselves by learning,practicing and reflecting. The teachers in plateau should strengthen their self motivation, learn knowledge systematically and realize the combination of theory and practice. At the same time, teachers shoule adhere to teaching and research combination, then achieve high- quality professional development and promotion.
