Social Loafing Study In Cross-cultural Perspective

Studies of social loafing in culture perspective mainly focus on collectivism and individualism.However some researchers advocated that the main element that caused social loafing in culture perspective was power distance(Klehe & Anderson,2007).This is partly because that most of the social loafing research on culture perspective choose the comparison between eastern and western culture,which are also distinct in power distance(Earley,1989,1993;Gabrenya,Latane,& Wang,1981,1983,1985).This study examined the correlation between individualism collectivism and social loafing,as well as between power distance and social loafing in an organizational setting.A study was conducted to test the hypothesis that power distance had some correlation relationship with social loafing in cultural perspective.38 summer school Chinese students have been conducted two mathematic quizzes and a cultural questionnaire test.The result of ANVOA showed there was no proof to justify a significant correlation between power distance and social loafing,but there was significant correlation between individualism-collectivism and power distance.However constrained by the test method and sample quantity the result is less reliable and need further study.
