Nowadays,there has been always a common problem in the teaching of English writing at home,that is,focusing more on the teaching of lexical-grammar and ignoring discourse interpretation.Ordinary High School English Curriculum Standards(tests)in the book states clearly: Teachers should make proper evaluation from the following five aspects which,accordingly,include key points of content,effect of using language,cohesion and structure,format and register,and communication of target audience about students' compositions(PEP,2003).It stresses that “writing should focus more on situational context and discourse”(PEP,2003),so it is more important to take communicative purpose,topic,and the relationship between writers and audiences into consideration in writing.Meanwhile,these factors have a close relationship with discourse construction,therefore,it would be more necessary to develop students' competence of discourse construction.This thesis tried to use the process genre approach to arrive at the goal which develops students' competence of discourse construction in order that we can have some effective conduct towards the students' writing.According to the above goal of the thesis,the author puts forward to three questions:(1)Can PGA develop effectively students' competence of discourse construction? Why?(2)Can the acquirement of discourse interpretation help improve students' writing grades?(3)How can we effectively improve students' writing levels after using PGA in middle schools?The author uses a term to carry out the experimental research.The experimental subjects are these students of class 1 and class 3 of senior one of 2016 session which add up to 100 students from No.2 High School of Guiyang in Guizhou province.Firstly,the author understands students' attitude to English writing by questionnaire survey.Then,the author carries out the contrastive analysis of pre-test and post-test for discourse construction of two kinds of genres.Under instruction of genre analysis theory and schema theory,the author carries out quantitative analysis for using PGA to develop students' competence of discourse construction,and makes some feasible analysis.The research shows that PGA can not only help students have a good habit which includes reading and analyzing model essays,but also establishes the confidence of writing and friendly relationship between teachers and students.At the same time,the results are found that experimental class has a larger improvement in the discourse construction than control class by carrying the experiment for nearly a term,and the discourse is more readable.Therefore,PGA has a strong adaptability in developing students' competence of discourse construction;it can efficiently enhance the middle school students writing abilities as well.
