| There are three basic elements of language,pronunciation,grammar and vocabulary.Vocabulary plays an important part for students in language learning.The students’ vocabulary level not only affects their listening,speaking,reading and writing,but also closely relates to their confidence and interest in English learning.Only if they master related words,they can understand the general meaning of article and obtain information and get a sense of achievement from it.On the contrary,because of the lack of vocabulary,they can not understand the meaning of article.Confidence and interest in studying English will be decreased.In the process of current English vocabulary teaching and learning,teachers and students have made a lot of efforts,but the achievements are not satisfying.The study took the students from the Second Middle School of Pan county as subjects,and used the method of empirical research to explore the role of word formation in vocabulary teaching and learning.It tries to answer the following question: To what extent can word formation promote students’ vocabulary learning? It tries to find how word formation improves students’ vocabulary learning level and how the students apply word formation to their process of vocabulary learning.There weretotally 132 subjects from two classes of Grade Oneof the Second Middle School.Class 13 was the experiment class.Class 16 was the control class.In three months of teaching experiment,the researchers carried out a series of experiments.Firstly,there were five students chosen respectively from the two classes to interview,which is to learn about the students’ difficulties of vocabulary learning and the situation that students know word formation.And there was a pretest to test whether the two classes were at the similar level.Next,there was a teaching experiment.The vocabulary teaching method of word formation was used in the experiment class,while the conventional vocabulary teaching methodwasusedin the control class: the teacher taught the pronunciation,form,meaning and phrases related to the new words.After 3 months,there was a post-test to inspect the teaching results,and there was a questionnaire survey in the experiment class to analyzewhether students can use word formation to study words.After data collection,there was an analysis and discussion about the research.The data of tests were analyzed bySPSS20 software,and there also were qualitative and quantitative analyses of the questionnaire and interview.The paper concludes that:Word formation is applied in the vocabulary teaching,which can improve the students’ interest in vocabulary learning,whichis helpful for students to study vocabulary that formed by the rules of word formation;students can use word formation to construct their vocabulary learning. |
