Since in the 1960 of the 20 th century,women's studies increasingly attracted people's attention: like women research institutes were gradually mature,women's studies monograph issued in succession,women's studies courses in the college class were embedding constantly,the discipline construction and teaching were strengthened in some extends and so on.The develop quality of the female college students have great impact on the management,construction and reforms of university.It not only affected the construction of the first-class University in the world and the first-class disciplines,but also associated with the growth of comprehensive national strength and the sustainable development of the world.In order to improve the training quality of female college students,China Women's University start to establish women's studies majors in 2006,and different level universities have been opened general courses,optional course,required course about gender studies in succession,and the course location,content,teaching objectives in women's studies also became a hot topic.However,there appear some questions,like the construction of women's studies curriculum is not perfect,issues such as curriculum requirements is not clear.Curriculum is a basic way to achieve educational goals,and is an important part to accomplish the aims of education.Curriculum design needs of women's studies refer to the imbalance status between the female students currently acquired the knowledge of women's studies curriculum system with their actual demand.And this study shows such imbalance status more scientific by analyzing the data: The college women's studies courses have been many requirements in comprehensive colleges and universities;there presents unreasonable and unscientific structure in curriculum design;the teaching objectives are not clear and so on.This study comply with the fundamental paradigm of quantitative research,and through randomly sampled investigations in S university,Y university,C university,Z university and G university by using questionnaires,and combined with interviews,in the end,the following work were completed: One is to review the literature.It comb the women's studies curriculum literature at home and abroad,and make a brief review about the women's studies seminars,the development history of construction of discipline system,the objective and significance of the carrying out of women's studies courses.Secondly,it developed the survey tool.On the basis of looking up a large number of documents,the semi-structured interviews,and under the assistance with teachers and students,formed the questionnaire and the interviews Investigation on Curriculum Design Needs of Women's Studies in Colleges and Universities.Thirdly,it analyses the figures.This study explores the needs of overall situation,the needs of each dimension,and the difference tests of demographic sociology of women's studies curriculum design by using descriptive statistics,T-test,single-factor ANOVA test,factor analysis,and reliability analysis.Four are to analyze the results,full discussion,and bring to a conclusion.Five is countermeasures.Six are three original hypothesis is validated.The study found that:There is a strong demand with women's studies curriculum in colleges and universities.The top three of the six dimensions of curriculum design needs of women's studies respectively are the teaching objectives(3.98),teacher force(3.97),and aggregate demand(3.71);the dimension of curriculum requirements contains three items,and the mean all are high.It well verified the hypothesis 1: college students all expect to acquire good women's studies curriculum.The needs intensity ranking of Course Orientation is: Elective Course> Elective Course+Compulsory> Compulsory.The needs intensity ranking of Teaching Materials is: Centering on Individual Teaching> Get Rid of Textbooks> Using Fixing Materials.The needs intensity ranking of Evaluation Method is: Open Forming> Evaluate by Teacher/Parent/Peer> Write ideas> Closed Forming.The needs intensity ranking of Teacher Force is: Rich Subject Knowledge> Familiar with Subject areas> High Education Level.There exists significantly differences in Men and Women Gender in the dimension of Overall Needs,Teaching Target,Textbook Using,and Teacher Force;there exists significantly differences in Local Institution in dimension of Teaching Target and Textbook Using;there exists significantly differences in Religious Belief and Raised Way in dimension of Teacher Force;there exists significantly differences between S university and Z university,also between G university and Z university in dimension of Overall Needs.Demographic variables,consists of China's main nationality and ethnic minorities,only-child and non-only-child,economic conditions,grades,professions,which were not significantly differences in the six dimensions.The level of needs and the total sharing in Female students are above boys in the six dimensions;the only child in the level of needs and the total sharing are above non-only-child in except overall needs outside of five dimensions;the scores on parents raising college students in six dimensions are higher than the other ways;urban students in the five dimensions in addition to the Overall Needs of students and demand intensity on the total score are higher than that of rural students;liberal arts students in five dimensions except the dimension of Curriculum Objectives and total score are higher than on science.The course content that most students want to study include: Modern Manners(11.38)> Body Training(8.69)> Female Psychology and Physiology(8.53)> Female Employment(6.37)> Beauty Make Up and Costumes to Match(6.54).Research innovation:(1)the study combed the five General University about Women's studies curriculum setup of status and all kinds of problems in teaching practice.(2)The questionnaire and the interviews,which were formed in this study will benefit to the next research and other research.(3)We can further expand this study: first,to further investigate the factors,which affecting the college women's studies courses,and to identify the core factors in order to successful solve the demand problem;second,carrying further research on connotation of quality education of female students in colleges and universities,and finding the path to improve teaching quality of female students;and,third,making a research on Women's studies courses on the effects of teaching quality by using participatory research methods.
