The Consideration On Sociology Of "Forced Marriage Of Parents"

This article defines forced marriage of parents as “one or both of parents force their children into marriage without children’s consent or against their will” from comparing with literature and cases.It is not that parents express their views on the status of children’s marriage,and not that parents continue to urge their children to marry.In the special relationship between parents and children,there are “relationship” and “behavioral” two features in the phenomenon of forced marriage of parents.Because it is only a groping qualitative study,this paper mainly to interview seven families of forced marriage besides referencing to the existing literature on the data collection.In order to understand the forced marriage of parents more objective,every case consist of parents’ interviews and children’s ones.And based on two sides of cases,the author summarized four types and some characteristics for forced marriage of parents.Explanation of any phenomenon is difficult to perfect,then this paper analyzes the “forced marriage of parents “only in the perspective of social change.This article will be divided into two aspects of the reasons for its discussion.One of both is the reason of parents’ forced marriage.The other is why are children not or not being married and against their parents.There are three aspects about the reasons of the parents.Firstly,the author explains the parents’ understanding of the value of marriage by “fertility regime”.Secondly,there are some reasons for those parents are anxious about their children not married or not married right now.Thirdly,in China,close parent-child relationship and “the lives of parents arranged” are reasons that affects the marriage decision of the parents to hold their children.There are five aspects about the reasons of the children’s through drawing on the Feng Xiaotian’ study of the influence of social change on youth.The first,the rapid development of market economy provides the basis for the marriage mode of youth.The second,under the social change,the population structure has changed into gender imbalance,which raise a question of “more men and fewer women” in marriage market.The third,the original function of the family has been challenged and moved to society because of increased social differentiation.The growth of social mobility also affects the conclusion of the marriage of some young people.The forth,the changing society brings modern and diversified marriages to young people.The fifth,the express provision of the law to freedom of marriage will affect the public.Compared the reasons for both parents and children,we found cultural lag,inadequate debugging between cultural complexs,is the reason for forced marriages of parents in social change.The economic model precedes the marriage value,and social system such as law,social security is behind the marriage culture,the disharmony between them induced the conflict of forced marriage.“Forced marriage of parents” is like a clue to connect with all kind of social systems in the changing society.It is not personal problem,and cannot stay in the proposal,that parents and children should be more communication and more understanding.Combined with our own situation,social workers could help people who forced or be forced into marriage by learning from the experience of Western society.In the study of marriage and family in China,it is not a leap from the traditional marriage mode to the modern marriage.The environment of social change requires that the academic research of marriage and family is diversified.
