Reading plays a crucial role in English language teaching.To improve English reading skills is one of the most important goals for English teachers.The new curriculum also requires students to flexibly utilize all sorts of English Reading Strategies to support their English reading.Therefore,it is necessary to study the effect of English Reading Strategies on English reading.In this thesis,based on the established Reading Strategy concept,classification and other academic achievements on Reading Strategy study,incorporated the Reading Strategy classifications done by some scholars,and by taking surveys,interviews,reading tests and class observations to students from three senior high schools in Guyuan,I collect some information on the Reading Strategies applications.Based on the result of the collected data and the interviews' outcome,I would be able to draw a conclusion as follows: Generally speaking,the utilization of EnglishReading Strategies among the senior high school students is not good enough.Among the three kinds of strategies,cognitive strategies are used the most frequently,followed by Meta-cognitive Strategies.Social Strategies are the least frequently used strategies.According to the frequency and the type of usage of the reading strategies,the students in high score group are significantly higher than those in the low score group.And the shortage of high school students in the utilizing of English reading learning strategies.According to the study outcomes,I put forward the suggestions as follow.They are: For teachers,Teachers should ascertain the basic goal of English reading teaching,introduce reading strategies to students systematically,conduct systematic reading strategy training,cultivate students to form good reading habits consciously.For students,Students should consciously learn and master a variety of reading strategies,improve the ability of self-assessment and reflection,improve the awareness and ability of cooperation and communication.
