Writing is a comprehensive detection of English learning ability.And it is also a vital part of National Matriculation English Test.However,the present situation of English writing in senior high school is worrying.Due to the limitation of the current traditional teaching,teachers don't pay enough attention to the teaching of English writing and they lack specific methods to guide students' writing.Thereby,students have little writing enthusiasm and their English writing skill is poor.Scaffolding instruction is a teaching method of constructivism theory proposed by Wood,Bruno,and Ross in 1976 which is based on Vygotsky's theory of the ZPD and Krashen's input hypothesis.It is mainly divided into five steps,namely,setting up scaffolds;entering into the scene;exploring independently;learning collaboratively and making evaluation.With the increase of communication with the world,scaffolding instruction has been introduced to China.Scaffolding instruction has been applied in many areas of educational field,but there are few researches on the application in English writing in senior high school.Therefore,the author applies scaffolding instruction in English writing class of senior high school trying to explore whether it is able to change the current situation of English writing,and analysis whether the scaffolding instruction can improve students' English writing ability and cooperative learning and autonomous learning ability.In this research,two classes of the same level in grade two of Ziyun senior high school were selected as the subjects.Class A was the controlled class and class B was the experimental class.These two classes were very close to the number of students,their English writing scores and so on.The teaching experiment lasted for 8 weeks,from August 2016 to October 2016.The author collected data by applying tests,questionnaires and interviews.During the experiment,the author observed and recorded the classroom teaching and analyzed the data with Excel.The following conclusions are made:1.Serious problems exist in the learning and teaching of English writing of senior high school.2.Compared with the traditional teaching method,scaffolding instruction can more effectively improve students' English writing ability.3.Students are satisfied with the application of scaffolding instruction in English writing.And scaffolding instruction can effectively enhance students' cooperative learning and autonomous learning ability.
