As "The English Curricular Standards for JEFC" points out,"Language skills including listening,speaking,reading and writing play a vital role in using a language.Listening and reading belong to comprehensive skills while reading and writing function as conveying skills,which reciprocally contribute to students learning a foreign language." When it comes to English teaching junior middle schools,listening and speaking is prior to reading and writing.Therefore,teaching listening in junior middle schools is of great importance.By means of cooperative learning,students can help and facilitate each other to finish their learning tasks more efficiently as well as improve their competence.This study is to apply cooperative learning to English listening teaching in junior middle school,and try toprove whether cooperative learning canimprove students' listening grades and promote students' listening interests or not.This study is based on Constructivism theory,Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory and Krashen's input hypothesis.The author applied cooperative learning to Shaya No.2 Middle School in Akesu.Class 8 is the experim ental class and Class7 is the control class.After 12 weeks' experiment and survey research,the author has cometo the conclusion that through teaching cooperative learning,students' listening ability can be improved and their interests in English listening can be promoted as well in Shaya No.2 Middle School in Akesu.This thesis is mainly divided into five chapters.Chapter one: the introduction describes the researchbackground and significance of the topic.The second chapter introduces the definitions of core concepts,as well as the theoretical basis and related research status of cooperative learning.The third chapter is the experimental part of the study which introduces the research process,methodology and teaching cases.The fourth chapter analyzes the data in the research.The lastpart is the summary and reflection.In the end,the author reflects the advantages and disadvantages of the research.
