Listening is not only the foundation of language learning,but also plays a very important role in human communication.Most junior middle school students have difficulty in understanding English and communicating with people in English when they are in real communicative situations.But inefficient English listening teaching results in students' poor listening competence.Therefore,English teachers should attach much importance to it.The purpose of this thesis is to regard English Curriculum Standards which was issued by the Ministry of Education in 2011 as the fundamental basis,follow the rules of language skills acquisition,analyze the current problems of English listening teaching in junior middle schools,state that it is necessary and practical to standardize the approach of dictation training.This thesis provides an empirical study and develops the idea of improving English listening for junior middle school students by increasing dictation training.At the same time it will also be beneficial to improve the junior middle school students' English comprehensive skills.Based on the researches by the previous scholars and the author's personal experience,the research will take the input and output theory,schemata theory and memory principle of the cognitive theory as the theoretical framework,and focus on an innovative mode of dictation practice.The author will conduct an empirical research on this dictation mode with the 110 students from Feida Road Junior Middle School in Dafeng District in Yancheng City.Class 10 Grade 2 was randomly divided into the experiment class and Class 8 Grade 2 was the control class.The dictation training lasted for 18 weeks.The author taught them by herself.The author has both qualitatively and quantitatively designed two questionnaires for students,an interview for teachers,a pre-test and a post-test.This thesis aims to explore whether this dictation mode has positive effect on improving students' listening competence.Through 18 weeks of dictation training,the experimental findings can be concluded as follows: Most of the students in the experiment class have got better scores with this dictation training mode.From the data comparison and analysis,this dictation mode has improved the average listening competence of the subjects effectively.Therefore,using the dictation training to cultivate the students' listening competence is both feasible and effective.
