In the recent years,the educational reform has developed a lot,especially English teaching.English teaching has made great progress and has some new changes.English Curriculum Standard also points out that students in senior high school should be cultivated the critical thinking according to their cognitive needs and communicative ability.Besides,in the information society,people need to deal with a lot of information.So people request to develop their critical thinking to get effective information.In the reading,they need the critical thinking.So they need critical reading to gain useful news.According to the English Curriculum Standard and society need,students in senior high school should be cultivated the critical thinking and critical reading.Reading is an important way to get information from outside world.And reading is an important skill of English learning.However,the situation of reading teaching in senior high school is not satisfying.Teachers devote their energy to explaining the words,phrases and sentences,instead of the development of the critical reading,which needs to evaluate the author or the whole text.Students do not well in the exams,especially in the reading part.The focus of teaching reading is from words and grammar teaching to critical reading teaching.So the study of critical reading should be done in the senior high school to see if the situation can be changed.The study is based on the constructivism learning and critical discourse analysis theories.Senior high school has its own features and problems.The study combines the relevant theories with the teaching practice to explore the critical reading teaching model.The study belongs to the experimental study.The study uses questionnaires,tests and so on as the study instruments in order to explore whether the critical reading teaching can improve the awareness of critical reading strategies usage and reading abilities compared with the traditional reading teaching or not.The experimental study was conducted in Linceng Senior High School and lasted for five months.The author was the English teacher of two parallel classes---Class 19 and Class 20.Before the experiment,the author gave out the questionnaire and English pretest paper to the two classes to learn about the situation of critical reading strategies usage and English reading ability in two classes.Then the different reading teaching were conducted.After the experiment,the questionnaire and post-test paper were also gave out to the students in the two classes to see whether the situation of reading strategies usage and reading ability has changed or not.Through the SPSS.23,the data of questionnaires and test papers were collected.The statistics and results proved that critical reading teaching model could improve the awareness of using critical reading strategies and the ability of reading compared with the traditional reading model.The study will provide an example to the English reading teaching.However,there are some deficiencies,such as the small samples,the discontinuous time,inexperienced author and so on.The deficiencies may be solved in the further study.
