It is known that the knowledge system of biology is comprised of interrelationships between biological concepts.Achievement in the subject largely depends on the degree of students' understanding about biological concepts.Understanding means the correct representation of brains to those concepts. The survey about the synthesis and transport of secreted proteins is a systematic function of cells by questionnaire is conducted to explore the conceptual representation level of the students at Grade 2 in three different qualified schools in Fujian Province. The study finds that:1.there is significant difference in conceptual representation level of students from these different schools;2.Most of the student concept of the relationship between the confusion, failed to understand the "cell is a basic life system" is "secretory protein synthesis and transport is the cell system function" of the superior concept;3.conceptual representation is featured with single, inaccurate external form and lacks of diversity;4.The same conceptual representation is positively correlated with the same the level of the concept.Following suggestions about conceptual teaching are put forward based on the above findings:(1)it is suggested to use conceptual teaching which consists of upper concepts;(2)conceptual teaching should follow the process of conceptual representation(literal representation, concrete representation, abstract representation and Image representation):first,it is required to create a certain situation to introduce concept;second, abstract concepts are embodied by highlighting key words, phrases and structural models to help students grasp correct concepts;finally, students are asked to draw concept map and encouraged to use concepts to solve actual problems and then further understand these concepts;(3)teachers should further study their teaching materials to prepare for conceptual teaching.
