In order to learn English well, senior high school students should have good command of listening, speaking, reading and writing. However, many teachers pay more attention to language input than output, such as writing.Even though some English teachers realize the importance of writing, they only focus on grammar, not pragmatics. However,a large part of students' writing errors are not grammatical ones but the inappropriate use of vocabulary and sentences. They are what we call Chinglish. Many teachers neglect pragmatics in English wiring classes, therefore pragmatic failures appear in students'English writings. This research explores pragmatic failures in English writings and comes up with solutions. The aim of study is to improve the quality of English writing class.Taking students' English writing as the research topic, this study combines literature research with empirical method to explore the types and causes of pragmatic failures in senior high school students' English writings. This study finds that pragmatic failures mainly exist at four levels:words, syntax, intonation and discourse. Moreover, this study reveals four causes of pragmatic failures:the lack of culture knowledge and pragmatic awareness and negative pragmatic transfer. Then, this thesis puts forward the solution, namely corrective feedback to reduce pragmatic failures. Finally the researcher proves the feasibility of the solution through teaching experiment. It's expected that this research may offer reference for senior high school English teachers, help reduce pragmatic failures and to improve students' English writing ability.
