A Study On Vocabulary Learning Based On Multimedia Presentation

The acquisition of vocabulary knowledge and the cultivation of vocabulary competence are more and more important both in vocabulary learning and vocabulary teaching.With the rapid development of Internet,multimedia information technology and mobile terminal equipment,mobile learning with multimedia presentation is gradually entering the learners' life and has attracted a lot of attention in the field of teaching and scientific research.Vocabulary learning research based on multimedia presentation has important significance and value for both vocabulary learning and teaching,not only because this is the trend in the information age,but also is an important way to solve the learners' confusion in vocabulary learning and improve learners' vocabulary learning effect effectively.The author reviews the literatures of domestic and foreign vocabulary presentation modes,especially the domestic and foreign related literature and achievements of multimedia presentation modes.Based on the previous research achievements,with the support of the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia and Connectivism Learning Theory,with 114 high school students as the research objects and the integrated use of literature method,experimental method,compared to word list with example sentence(In the following,it is called traditional presentation),to inquiry multimedia presentation modes of BaiCiZhan on quantity of vocabulary learning and vocabulary knowledge learning effect.The study was conducted in two ways.Firstly,in the form of dictation,through 12 instant tests and 1delayed test to find the different effects on gaining vocabulary quantity between the two presentation modes;Secondly,according to Webb's vocabulary knowledge test paper,this thesis designed the vocabulary knowledge test paper which is suit for this study.The text paper check learners from two aspects of receptive knowledge and productive knowledge,on five vocabulary knowledge dimensions of orthography,meaning and form,grammatical function,syntagmatic association,paradigmatic association,to investigate how well the subjects master the vocabulary knowledge with this two kinds of presentation modes.This thesis will make a thorough inquiry: compared with the traditional way of presenting,the advantages and disadvantages of the multimediapresentation of BaiCiZhan in accumulating vocabulary quantity,gaining vocabulary knowledge,the acquisition of receptive and productive vocabulary knowledge of multi dimensions,the acquisition of specific vocabularies and abstract vocabularies,nouns and verbs acquisition.The results showed that: 1)In instant vocabulary quantity test,BaiCiZhan multimedia presentation mode has slight advantage from the traditional presentation mode,but the effect is basically equivalent;in the delayed vocabulary quantity test,the former is prior to the latter;2)In the vocabulary knowledge test,in orthography,the traditional presentation has advantage;in meaning and form,grammatical function,syntagmatic association,paradigmatic association,BaiCiZhan multimedia presentation has advantages;3)In the receptive vocabulary knowledge,BaiCiZhan multimedia presentation in orthography,meaning and form,grammatical function,syntagmatic association,paradigmatic association dimensions of knowledge are in advantage;in productive vocabulary knowledge,BaiCiZhan multimedia presentation has advantages meaning and form,grammatical function,syntagmatic association dimensions;4)Abstract vocabulary learning is surely harder than specific vocabulary learning,BaiCi Zhan multimedia presentation has significant advantages in both abstract vocabulary learning and specific vocabulary learning;5)In productive orthography knowledge learning of nouns,the traditional way of presenting shows advantage;in the learning of their meaning and form,grammatical function,syntagmatic association and productive grammatical function knowledge dimensions,BaiCiZhan multimedia presentation has advantages.When the target word is a verb,the two modes of presentation are about the same effect.According to the results of the study,some suggestions are put forward:First,from the perspective of vocabulary learning,learners should start from their own vocabulary learning goals,then choose the appropriate mode of vocabulary presentation.In vocabulary learning process,the learners should pay attention to the cultivation of purpose consciousness and control consciousness,optimize the learning resources,improve the ability of autonomous learning effectively;Second,from the perspective of vocabulary teaching,the educators should not only pay attention to the dual cultivation of vocabulary breadth knowledge and depth knowledge,but also pay attention to the application of modern information technology and multimediapresentation in vocabulary teaching and courseware design,and select the appropriate vocabulary presentation according to the specific vocabulary teaching objectives;At the same time in the design and selection,pay attention to the appropriate levels of details to avoid redundancy;Third,from the view of software exploiting,learning resources design should take the diversification and individuation into account,according to different knowledge objectives of different learners,despite of the same learning content,provide a more scientific and effective presentation mode,to make learning resources fit for the characteristics and needs of learners.
