Taken the Self-concept Theory as guidance,this study,by implementing positive English learning self-concept teaching strategies,aims at cultivating technical secondary school students' positive self-concept,that is,improving the level of students'self-assessment,self-consciousness and self-awareness,thus enhancing students' ability to learn English.This study is intended to answer the following three questions:(1)At what levels are the general self-concept,English learning self-concept,English ability self-concept and English knowledge self concept of the technical secondary school students?(2)Can students' positive self-concept levels be raised after implementing training strategies of positive English learning self-concept?What changes will take place in the above-mentioned four dimensions of self-concept of students?(3)Can the positive self-concept effectively improve students' performance in their English learning?In order to answer these questions,the author conducted an empirical research in the past year.With SPSS21.0 software,the writer has made both comprehensive analysis of the data collected from questionnaires and English proficiency tests and qualitative analysis of interviews.The study found that:the current four dimensions of technical secondary school students' self-concept are negative.But with the adoption of training strategies like psychological interventions and counseling,positive self-concept teaching practice in the experimental class and personal examples and verbal instructions of people around,students' self-concepts show overall development--they are improved as a whole.The standard deviation gaps of both classes' self-concept pre-and post-tests increase significantly;the experimental class students' self-concept is superior to that in the control class,and academic performance of English in experimental class improves significantly.Studies have proved that positive self-concept training strategies can effectively improve students' self-concept.Positive self-concept can effectively improve students' English academic performance.
