| Vocabulary learning is a foundation of language learning.People cannot smoothly communicate or express their own thoughts without enough vocabulary.However,vocabulary teaching is not normally effective enough in junior middle school.The traditional teaching method could not fully arouse students’ enthusiasm on learning vocabulary and improving their vocabulary proficiency.With the development of English vocabulary teaching theory and practice,multimodal teaching approach has emerged,which provides a new method and idea for solving these problems.This study aims to apply multimodal teaching approach to English vocabulary,and to explore whether this teaching method can solve the existing problems of English vocabulary teaching in junior middle school which based on the following two research questions:1.What is the effect of multimodal teaching approach on learning English vocabulary in junior high school?2.What are the changes of students’ attitudes towards English vocabulary learning after the application of multimodal teaching approach?The study lasted for four months,and two parallel classes in Grade Seven of Hu Tai School in Xinmin City were randomly selected as experimental and control classes separately.In order to ensure the reliability and validity of the experiment,the research instrument involve pre-test,post-test,questionnaires and interview.Theresults of the study were analyzed by software SPSS 22.0.The results of tests showed that the post-test scores of the experimental class were higher than those of the control class.Through the data analysis of questionnaires and interview,it was found that the effect of multimodal teaching approach in vocabulary teaching was superior to the traditional vocabulary teaching method,and it also had a positive role in arousing the students’ interest in learning vocabulary.Finally,pedagogical implications have been proposed in the end of the thesis. |
