Imitative writing,as an effective way,focuses on input,memorization,output,and interaction.And Memetics,as an advanced theory in language learning,stressed on assimilation,retention,expression,and transmission.This research will focus on the close relationship between imitative writing and Memetics and design four steps of teaching procedure,which includes memes input,memes memorization,memes output,and memes interaction in order to improve students' writing proficiency by constant imitation,which contains words imitation,sentence imitation,paragraph imitation and passage imitation.The study intend to test whether imitative writing can improve high school students' writing proficiency and change students' attitude to English writing after imitative practice.The researcher carried out a three-month experiment on imitative writing in Heilongjiang province XX school.The 106 subjects of this research come from two parallel classes of Grade one among which 53 students are from each class.The teacher applied imitative writing based on Memetics in experimental class,while in control class,the traditional teaching method was adopted.To ensure the effectiveness of the study,qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis were adopted together.The instruments cover questionnaire,interview and tests.This study shows that(1)Imitative writing can improve high school students' writing proficiency in terms of vocabulary,grammar and structure of the composition.(2)Imitative writing can change students' attitude and develop students' enthusiasm towards English writing.The thesis is divided into five chapters.In the introduction part,the author points out the background,significance,purpose,and the overall structure of the study.And chapter two gives a review of research on Memetics,imitative writing,English writing,and some relative theories.Chapter three gives a full account of the research questions,subject,instruments,teaching procedures and data analysis.Chapter four illustrates the research results and discusses the research questions.And chapter five,as the last part of the thesis,it concludes major findings,pedagogical implications,limitations of this study,as well as some suggestions for further study.
