| Since the term of “meme†is first proposed in Dawkins’ The Selfish Meme in1976, meme with memetics, as a new theory, began to attract scholars’ attention whocame from all fields. The pioneer to study memetics in China is Professor GuiShichun, who advanced the term of “meme†for the first time in the preface ofLanguage and Culture. He gives a very brief introduction to the term “meme†andproposes that memetics be employed to linguistic research. After that, memeticsbecomes a new perspective to study linguistics. At present, memetics is used in manyfields, such as psychology, sociology, biology, and so on.This thesis uses memetics as the theoretical support to study the importance ofrecitation to senior high students’ English writing. Meanwhile, recitation, as atraditional learning method, will be scanned once more. As for writing, as a bigproblem for senior high students, is required mastering but not respected enough. It isa good evidence that seldom writing lessons are in senior high schools. The aim of this thesis is to study how recitation could be applied to Englishwriting from the perspective of memetics, and how recitation acts on English writing. To make sure the thesis is effective in the study, quantitative approach and qualitativemethod are adopted together. That means experiment and interview. The experimentanalyzes the tests’ data, while the interview analyzes the interview content. The thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter one mainly introduces thebackground, purpose and the overall structure of the study. And then literature review is shown in chapter two. In this part, memetics, recitation, writing and some relativetheories are reviewed, including abroad and at home. Chapter three illustrates thestudy and results. It also shows the details in experiment and interview, certainly, andthe data collection. Chapter four analyses the data collected in chapter three in details, and a brief discussion is refers to at the end of this chapter. Chapter five, as the lastpart of this thesis, is conclusion. It mainly includes major findings, pedagogicalimplications and limitations of this thesis and some suggestions for the futureresearch. |
