English reading has great significance to English learners.As an important means of language learning,reading plays a significant role in cultivating students' language skills of English.At the same time,clear requirements are referred by our educational department on the cultivation of students' ability on English reading.Teachers need to adopt appropriate teaching methods to help students develop good reading habits.In order to improve the comprehensive use of language,students need to deepen their understanding of English in various aspects.However,the methods of English teaching are simple in junior high school at present,which mostly focus on translation,grammar,vocabulary and syntax.But students cannot understand the main idea of one passage,the framework and the logic between paragraphs.The difficulty of understanding the main idea of the passage causes students lack of initiative in reading.As a result,students have low efficiency and interest during reading passages.This thesis applies the mind map as a teaching strategy for students.Therefore,this thesis mainly discusses the following questions:1.Can mind map be used in English teaching of reading comprehension in junior high school?2.How can mind map be used in English teaching of reading comprehension in junior high school effectively?This thesis mainly uses the experiment,questionnaires survey and the tests as the research methods.In this study,the research subject is the students of four classes in grade seven of No.27 junior high school in Nanjing,who are at a comparable level based on the scores of reading comprehension in the pre-test.Two classes are chosen as the control group,while the other classes are taken as the experimental group.The study lasts for three months.The pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire are used to collect and analyze the research data,comparing students' attitudes toward reading comprehension and their reading ability in the process of this whole study.The results show that:(1)the mind map can be used in English teaching for reading comprehension,and the application of mind map can improve the students' reading level.(2)the teacher should select topics that students are interested in and the passages which have clear structures;students should have the repeated training and feedback to consolidate the strategy,thereby they improve interest of reading and change their reading habits and promote the reading proficiency.Finally,this thesis provides some suggestions for teachers.Moreover,it offers the usage on teaching strategies and improvements on teaching ideas in junior high school for the future researches.
