The increasingly accelerative urbanization and rising levels of the economy result in the dramatic increase in vehicle, meanwhile which exacerbated the conflict between the increasing demand for the city transportation facilities and the insufficient urban transportation ability. City traffic jams make the public spend more time on the road to the workplaces, school, or other places, which hinder the utilization rate of the public transport facilities from improving further. At the same time, the heavy urban traffic also caused serious environmental problems such as the atmospheric pollution and noise pollution. The air quality is becoming worse and worse as the urban air pollution is aggravating and the pollution haze is more serious.Furthermore, the growing use of the vehicles aggravates the traffic noise pollution. To develop the intelligent transportation system is considered as one of the most effective ways to greatly ease the pressure on urban traffic and even solve the urban traffic problems. In the case of the urban road construction gradually getting saturated, the intelligent transportation system(ITS), is realized by using the advanced information technology, the GPS satellite positioning technology(GPS), the data communication technology, the electronic sensor technology, the electronic control technology and the computer processing technology, and then consequently establishes a wide range,all-round, real-time, more accurate and more efficient integrated transport and management system. Public transportation information service system is one of the important branches of the development of intelligent transportation system, which can provide accurate traffic information for the people who are using urban public transport facilities.Under this severe situation, a system design scheme about providing accurate traffic information for the people who are using urban public transport facilities, is proposed based on the GPS satellite positioning technology, the sensor technology,the wireless data transmission technology and the internet technology. Without wired links, the system finishes the data transmission by Wireless Mesh Network and the user could get the real-time and accurate public traffic information by mobile phones,PCs or other network terminals. This system is aimed at providing the real-time, more accurate and more reliable traffic information which helps the public to shorten thetime on the roads to the destinations and improves the utilization rate of the public transport facilities. Furthermore, it could relieve the pressure on urban traffic to some extent. The design of the system has stronger practicability and pertinence. This paper mainly discusses about the transit inquiry system based on the internet and bus, the main contents are as follows.First of all, large amount of information about the domestic and international development situation of the ITS were studied, and many professional theoretical researches of the relevant technologies about the transit inquiry system based on the internet and bus are analyzed in detail. As for the GPS satellite positioning technology,it makes clear that what is the concept and characteristics of the GPS system, how the GPS system works perfectly, what field the GPS system can be applied to. Then the sensing technology is studied, which mainly discusses about the composition and the principle of strain pressure sensor that is applied to the system. Finally, the Wireless MESH Network technology which is used for the system of the wireless data transmission is analyzed deeply in every respect. The theoretical researches about all kinds of relevant technology provides strong theoretical bases and evidences for the feasibility and implementation of the public traffic information service system.The system hardware design mainly includes four parts. The GPS receiver using the UBlox-6m as the core processing chip is the first part which mainly completes moving vehicle positioning. Then the second part which is composed of the strain pressure transducer and the amplifying circuit with the AD620 amplifier chip obtain the usage of public transport facilities. In other words, the second part’s function is to get the information about how many bus seats have been left, the speed of the bus and other things. The third part is the wireless data transmission. To succeed in finishing wireless data transmission, the YL-800 distributed MESH network wireless ad-hoc network module is chosen to finish this work under the control of the single chip microcomputer named the STC12C5A60S2. The program of the whole hardware system uses C language in the Keil uVision4 development software to complete the writing and debugging. As for the design of web service platform, the first step is to analyze the demands of the public transportation information service website, to make it clear that the website would provide what kind of service for the public and the website is how to set up and which technology to be chosen to complete the website’s development. After comparison and analysis, the technical framework of the Wed development is the Spring, Mybatis and Structs. The entire website is developed on Eclipse J2 EE software development environment and byusing Java language to complete writing programs. The main service of the web、site is to provide the traffic information for the public, which the function of website being developed is to get real-time data from the back-end server in a second, and then the obtained data is showed dynamically on the page when the user is browsing.Under the limited time and external resources, through the study of the system’s theory and specific designed programs, the transit inquiry system based on internet and bus is simulated as the public transportation information service system against the background of the Chengdu University of Technology. Finally, through the system’s software and hardware simulation, the system has fulfilled the predetermined requirements.In a nutshell, the transit inquiry system based on internet and bus not only can improve utilization of the urban public transport facilities, allow more people to use transport to travel, reduce the use of private vehicles to ease traffic pressure, but also reduce environmental pollution and achieve green development of the city.
