With the rapid development and wide popularity of network tech nology in recent years,stability and reliability of networking facilities have been increasingly required by all trades and professions.The demands of how to assure quality of network transmission and to restore system in occurrence of breakdown have mad e redundant and backup technology a hot spot of research as well as solutions like switch stacking,VRRP,and Ethernet ring network emerge.Focusing on redundant backup technology,the paper,after summarizing a few mature application achievements of the t echnology at home and abroad,based on which has designed a simplified switch of inter-board redundant communication mechanisms.The message module of inter-board is designed to reach the communication of inter-board and unified management,independent fro m protocal modules of lay 2 or lay 3,making such function as link aggregation,manage the redundant and swap of the ethernet port in-board without failure of links single-point in the whole system.The design is built on a base platform,mature applicatio n in many projects,which is const of Zeb OS protocal soft system and BCM53344 hardware platform.Two switch chip which are embed in switch board are connected together by the high speed ethernet port that works in the stacking mode.At the same time,all o f control protocols are running on the master switch board,which is in charge of centralized management of the lay 2 information table and display the status of switch system and Ethernet port.The slave switch chip is only involved in the forwarding of d ata and controlling the suspense of protocol module.Only after the failure of the main switching board does the control protocol module of slave switch chip enter the running state.After the completion of design and realization,the performance(such as latency,packet loss,throughput)of switching board is tested using the Test Center of Sprient inc.The test data were compared and analyzed before and after the realization of redundant systems and the functions of unified management of redundant systems(configuration management,MAC address management,ARP management)were also tested.The test results show that the redundant system designed in this paper has few effects on performance and that features meet the requirements of practical value.
