A Study On Image Of America In Xin Jiao Liu Magazine

Xin Jiao Liu Magazine is a quarterly which is published by U.S.Embassy Press Office and aimed at introducing America to Chinese readers.The magazine occupies an important position in the process of transnational communication between China and America.Xin Jiao Liu Magazine is the revision of Jiao Liu Magazine.There is a former research on Jiao Liu Magazine,while there are no researches on Xin Jiao Liu Magazine.This article takes Xin Jiao Liu Magazine from the year of 2007 to 2015,a total of 25 volumes,as the object of the research and adopts content analysis methods to study the image of America in the magazine.The study analyzes the texts in 25 volumes from the five dimensions of economy,politics,society and culture,citizen and international behavior.Firstly the article makes quantitative statistics of the texts and then makes a summary of the content of the texts.The research shows that Xin Jiao Liu Magazine portrays America as a glamorous country,which is permeated with charm.The United States is a technology innovator in the economic development,a reformer in the construction of political system,an indivisible whole in the aspect of society and culture,and an responsible country in the aspect of international behavior.Xin Jiao Liu Magazine demonstrates the superiority of the system of America from different perspectives,and it is the superiority of the system that has a great appeal to immigrants all over the world to settle there.As a result of consideration of experience of Xin Jiao Liu Magazine,the study lists three suggestions to journals serving for China’s international communication.First of all,improve the taste of journals to arouse the interests of readers.And then,balance the quantity of negative,positive and neutral articles in the journals reasonably well.What’s more,select target audience and distribution methods appropriately to achieve accurate communication.
