Implementation Of Extensible Virtual Local Area Network Based On NP

With the rapid development of the cloud computing, the division of the two layer network is larger and larger. There are many problems in the traditional Virtual Local Area Network(VLAN) technology , which is limited by the number of tenants and difficult to maintain. So Virtual eXtensible Local Area Network(VXLAN) technology is proposed to solve these problems. VXLAN is a two-layer VPN technology which is based on IP network where the Ethernet packet is encapsulated in the UDP transport layer. This technology could support a large number of tenants and its maintenance is convenient. The designing and testing of VXLAN technology is studied in the paper based on the core router of Huasan company.The article is organized as follows. In the first part VXLAN Tunnel system is designed and the typical network model of VXLAN is studied. The design is based on platform software in Huasan company which uses the C language to develop tunnel system. The main work includes the creation and deletion of the VXLAN Tunnel, the configuration of VXLAN Tunnel source address and destinaion address, the detection and transmission of VXLAN Tunnel.In the second part VXLAN control function and the related table entries are designed for message forwarding, then these entries could direct VXLAN. The designing of the entire virtual network mainly include VSI module, VXLAN Tunnel module and VXLAN MAC module.In the third part VXLAN forwarding is designed. Based on the VXLAN table entries above we can achieve the message forwarding with the NP chip. The main work includes the forwarding design of unicast traffic and flood, as well as encapsulation and dis-encapsulation of the packet. In the end, the process of converting common two-layer message into VXLAN message is realized for transmission.In the forth part, we test and analysis VXLAN function in the NP chip,it demonstrate feasibility and high performance of VXLAN function.
