Wireless Sensor Network(WSN)is a kind of distributed network using wireless radio for communications. In the network, there are one or several central sinks and large scale distributed sensor nodes. The sensor nodes are low capability and low budget. All the nodes self-organize themselves when the network is working. Its primary purposes are sensing data in the surroundings and transferring them to users.During the self-organizing processes,no matter configuration profiles spreading, the binary codes updating or the network topology and routing tree building,if the processes involves all the nodes in the network, the floods are inevitable. In the wireless environment, the cost of traditional flooding is immense. The collisions of wireless radio are inevitable, which consume lots of retransmissions and energy.Although several improved algorithms designed for WSNs enhanced the efficiency and reduced the energy consumption, either they are computational complexity and hard to executed by the low capability and low cost processors,or trigger too much transmissions which consume extra energy. In this paper,we proposed time-based election algorithms to improve the efficiency of WSNs and the energy consumption.Analyze the features of WSNs,phenomena in wireless radio, traditional flooding and nearest years new flooding, and summarize the condition, loopholes, advantages and disadvantages.Create a wireless sensor network model, propose time-based election, apply it to elections in flooding, improve it further for the features of network and wireless radio, and propose four time-based electoral floodings;and build a layer-topology by the features of elected nodes;according to the properties of the time-based election, analyze the path from nodes to the sink after flooding.Compare proposed algorithms in this paper with the algorithms in the nearest years, and analyze their energy consumption, performance, reliability and efficiency.According to the comparisons in the experiments, the proposed algorithms achieve higher energy conservative and performance, more efficiency and reliability than other existing algorithms.
