With the quick development of multimedia,digital communication and computer network technology,the image acquisition equipment becomes more popular,and resolution is enhanced.The data of the image needed to be transferred and stored is getting larger,that is the reason why image compression coding technology has become an important part of image data transmission and storage.Wavelet transform has excellent time-frequency analysis ability.Therefore,image compression coding technology based on wavelet transform has become an important part in the field of image compression;it has good effect on compression ratio,compression efficiency and reconstructed image.The main work of this paper is to compare EZW,SPIHT,SPECK algorithms based on wavelet transform,and improve the algorithms.First,there is an overview of the background and significance of this research topic.The theory of image compression and wavelet transform is introduced.The choosing of a suitable wavelet basis for image compression is discussed,and the performance of the wavelet basis is compared and simulated by MATLAB.Next,the principle and implementation process of EZW,SPIHT and SPECK algorithms based on wavelet transform are introduced.With different code rate and different types of images,respectively,the effects of image compression are compared,and the impacts of wavelet and decomposition layers to compression result are analyzed.Finally,the embedded wavelet image compression algorithm combined with the wavelet preprocessing is improved,and the improved coding scheme is used in underwater acoustic image.The MATLAB simulation results show that the improved algorithm is feasible and effective.
