The physical unclonable function(PUF)can reflect the unique challenge-response of the chips.The challenge-response depends on the deep sub-micron changes of the chip,also called process variation.Process variation is caused by uncontrollable differences in the chip fabrication process.The differences can generate unique fingerprint information between chips,and the information can remain unchanged in the subsequent fabrication process of the chip and be unique to each chip.Moreover,the fingerprint information is sensitive to physical detection and can resist intrusive attacks.The complexity and randomness of process variation make PUF responses difficult to clone.Due to these properties,PUF has a broad application prospect in device authentication,encryption-key generation and intellectual property(IP)protection.This dissertation focuses on how to generate more Challenge-Response Pairs(CRPs)without increasing the cost of the PUF circuit.Mainly through two methods to achieve the purpose of increasing CRPs,one is through the application of configurable RO(RRO)and identity mapping functions;the second is to build a new PUF structure based on the traditional RO PUF.The main work of this dissertation is as follows:(1)Designed a new configurable oscillation ring structure.In this dissertation,the RRO in RRO PUF is called SRRO which is an RRO structure consisted of SRAM and RRO.We made SRRO a hard macro on the FPGA.(2)Hardware implementation of RRO PUF with identity mapping function.Design the architecture of RO PUF with identity mapping function on FPGA.The element of the RO network is the SRRO structure designed in this dissertation.The whole RRO PUF system is hardware implemented on a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA.The results show that the uniqueness and stability of the PUF reach to 48.96%and 3.24%,respectively.Compared with the classic RO PUF with identity mapping function used the same hardware resources,the generated effective response bits are 16 times that of the classical RO PUF.And the response bits have no correlation and unpredictability,also can prevent differential attacks,machine learning modeling attacks and reverse engineering attacks.(3)Redesign PUF structure based on literature[63].Based on RO PUF,a RO network different from the traditional RO PUF is constructed.Experimental verification on the Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA show that the uniqueness and stability of this PUF are:46.82%and 18.7%,respectively.The results also find that the number of PUF response bits increase to 256 bits.
