The Survey On Foxconn Workers' Leisure Condition-Case Of Zhengzhou Branch

Our country is now in a period of rapid industrialized growth and urbanized development. With the increasing income and more leisure time offered by the new holiday system, many of us feel that China has entered into the era of mass leisure. The quality of leisure has become an important indication measuring whether a person enjoys an entire life with health and happiness.Just like the uneven development of regional economies and economic imbalance between urban and rural areas in our country, there are huge imbalances in the different groups of people as to the quality of leisure and free time. The poor leisure condition of many frontline workers like Foxconn employees made us upset and worried. Since 2010, Foxconn employees who constantly committed suicide became a hot issue in our society. The similar tragedies took place in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Shandong, Shanxi, Henan and other Foxconn division, which arouse great concern about Foxconn employees' work, life and rest. This survey takes the leisure life of Zhengzhou Foxconn frontline employees as the study subject, and analyzes their leisure conditions through field study. It tries to discover the real leisure conditions of Foxconn frontline employees and to figure out a variety of restraints. Then this survey comes up with some suggestion aimed at improving their leisure conditions, easing the pressure of work, and promoting the harmony among society, business and individual.This survey is an empirical study of leisure conditions of Zhengzhou Foxconn employees, conducted through questionnaires and interviews. Based on domestic and foreign leisure theory, This survey mainly focuses on the core elements of “leisure”: the “leisure time”, “leisure activities” and “leisure mentality” which are defined in this article. In terms of leisure time, this survey tries to study and analyze the allocation of working time, non-working time, leisure time and employees' satisfaction with leisure time; In terms of leisure activities, this survey gives a deep insight into of their leisure activities, leisure places and leisure companions; In terms of leisure mentality, it tries to analyze Foxconn employees' leisure needs, leisure motives and leisure satisfaction by means of data analysis and research. Finally, According to their leisure situation related, this survey tries to analyze the main restraints in terms of individual internal factors, interpersonal factors and structural factors. Meanwhile, the countermeasures will be put forward from the angles of individual, business, and society.Through the survey, it can be concluded that Foxconn employees work overtime and they are seriously short of leisure time. In addition, the level of their leisure activities is not high, and they are subject to time, place and companions. However, leisure alienation, which causes greater impact and damage to physical and mental health, comes into being when some employees take part in leisure activities. Furthermore, most of Foxconn employees have lower leisure satisfaction while they have a strong need for leisure. Yet they believe that making money is more important than leisure activities when asked to make choices between overwork and recreation. In terms of leisure constraints, although Foxconn employee's leisure life is affected by a variety of factors like internal and interpersonal constraints, It is mainly subject to structural factors such as long working hours, life stress, low income, etc.
