Marine risers are the key point of the submarine pipelines. It is an important technology with quite difficult and high risk to repair in the field of maintain of offshore oil engineering. The developed countries such as Europe and America have the technology in hand. This article introduces the development of offshore oil situation at first and a special position of the risers in the development of offshore oil engineering. With the influence of external factors such as ocean currents, sea wind, sea ice and ship collision and internal matters such as flowing high temperature high pressure airflow and crude, the risers should be damaged easily. Once it happens, the crude and gas will be leak that at least shut down the oil field and worst of all, it may cause damage of platform, casualties and ecocatastrophe. It is very important of regular repair of the risers.The article introduces methods in common to repair the risers at home and abroad and lists the strengths and weaknesses by means of an example of wenchang 13-2 oil field of CNOOC Nanhai West Oil Management Bureau which the author serve in. The rises were in the splash zone close to jacket. The diver cannot dive at open sea with high surge. Because of less the good weather of window phase and difficult of access for the ships, it is very difficult to repair. The overall replacement causes long downtime and is expensive. A new technique resolved this problem by opened watertight compartment after comprehensive analysis. It will be completed within one week’s time of shutdown to avoid using of large ship and changing the whole riser with good repair and economic results. Finding a new way repairs this type of riser in the splash zone and is well worth promoting.
