Natural amino acids work as basic structural building units in biological macromolecules, showing a lot of functionalities and a high degree of selectivity. Metal-organic framework materials develop rapidly because of their unique structures and a wide range of applications. Amino acids and their derivatives have been widely used as building blocks to synthetize hybrid materials due to their unique chiral related properties. Due to their special biological activities, species diversity, selective substrate-binding function and flexible coordination ability, natural amino acids and their derivatives have been attractive synthons for the construction of homochiral MOFs. Amino acid derivatives have been used as chiral organic ligands to connect with metal ions for the formation of a variety of chiral functional materials, which exhibit interesting properties for potential applications in the fields of adsorption, chiral separation, asymmetric catalysis and medicine. In this thesis, we used L-valine and L-phenylalanine derivatives as the bridging ligands to connect with different transition metal ions to result in a series of homochiral metal-organic frameworks. Their single crystal structures and properties were systematic studied.(1) Four chiral organic ligands, synthesized form L-val and L-phe amino acids, link up transition metal ions to construct five homochiral metal-organic frameworks with 1D-3D structures. These compounds were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, PXRD, IR and TGA analysis.(2) Two compounds constructed from L-phe derivatives as building ligands and Zn2+ ion as connecting node. These compounds can host metalloporphyrin, Ru(bpy)3(PF6)2 or Rho B as active guests to form five composite materials as characterized by UV spectra. Some of these materials present interesting catalytic properties in selective oxidation reaction of sulfur ether, and one presents interesting luminescent property.
